S.M.A. Students, Buduburam, Ghana

The Liberian Initiative

Location: Liberia

This project began with training and advising Liberian residents of Buduburam Refugee Settle-ment in Ghana in response to requests to set up a community and peer mediation service. MBB then worked with former child soldiers along-side numerous Liberian, Ghanaian and international partners. Find out more.

Lawrenceville Dialogue Project

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

In August of 2007 MBB initiated a project to examine the efficacy of refugee resettlement efforts in the Pittsburgh area, particularly the Somali Bantu. The project examines three areas of concern: access to healthcare, access to education and social integration/community mediation.

Hurricane Katrina Project

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

MBB is deeply committed to building conflict resolution capacity not only overseas, but also in the U.S. By partnering with the Mississippi Mediation Project and the Family Mediation Council of Louisiana, MBB is working with community-based mediators in New Orleans, LA and Biloxi, MS to improve their skills and to develop community mediation programs.

Middle East Peace Initiatives

Middle East Initiative

Location: The Middle East

Mediators Beyond Borders, Middle East Initiative, is working with Neve Shalom Wahat Al Salam (NSWAS), an intentional Israeli village of Palestinian/Israeli and Jewish/Israeli families founded in 1978, to assist their Pluralistic Spirituality Center, PSC, on their program “Mediation in a Multi-Cultural Context”.  Find out more.

The Zimbabwe Initiative

Location: Zimbabwe

The Initiative seeks to assist civil society in Zimbabwe in preparing for a peaceful transition and developing internal capacity for solving the most pressing humanitarian challenges. The Initiative is focusing on developing a civil society network to facilitate and enhance communication among hostile factions, providing conflict resolution training, and
initiating a public dialogue/consensus-building program. Find out more.

MBB at Copenhagen COP15

The Copenhagen Initiative

MBB is the only mediation organization that will be officially observing the proceedings of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the most important environmental conference since Kyoto. MBB will assume a global leadership role as it urges delegates to include mediation in the new protocols and hosts an environmental mediation seminar. Find out more.

The Colombia Initiative

The Colombia Project

Location: Colombia

MBB is exploring establishing rural community mediation centers along with local reconciliation organizations, with the potential to integrate mediation and dialogue into many areas of Colombian life. MBB’s role in the Caribbean region of Colombia will be providing mediation training to its Colombian partners and community members. Find out more.

MBB’s proposed goal is to train Kosovo volunteers in dialogue facilitation, cross-cultural communication, prejudice reduction and bias awareness and other conflict resolution techniques.

The Lebanon Project

The Lebanon Project

Location: Lebanon

MBB is seeking in Lebanon, as a post conflict society, to bring disparate groups into a sustained and long term dialogue to reduce bias and religious prejudice.

The Nepal Initiative

MBB plans to collaborate with Nepali community mediation programs by providing training assistance and consultation in the areas of juvenile restorative justice and post-conflict trauma training for experienced mediators.

University student peace groups are seeking MBB’s help in building a coalition and training the peace groups and the student body in conflict resolution to prevent a return of violence in elections and club initiations.
